Answer: A, 1993

Ellen Ochoa became the first Hispanic woman to go to space on a mission with the space shuttle Discovery in 1993. She is a also a co-inventor on three patents for optical systems and is currently the director of the Johnson Space Center in Houston. Before becoming an astronaut, she was a researcher at the Energy Department. Learn more.
